The Branch at Greenville High

Student-run branch.

Greenville Federal Credit Union and Greenville Senior High School have partnered to operate a student-run credit union branch inside the high school. This initiative brings real world financial literacy and education into the school and allows students enrolled in the school’s Academy of Law, Finance and Business to gain real-life experience and preparation for both college and future careers. Students earn course credit and gain hands on experience as they manage and operate a fully functioning Greenville Federal Credit Union branch.

The student-run branch is named “The Branch at Greenville High” and carries its own branding reflective of the Greenville Senior High School brand. Students, faculty, and staff have daily access to the financial services provided by The Branch at Greenville High. The student-run branch is not open to the general public.

A first for Greenville County Schools.

When launched in 2016, the Branch at Greenville High School was a first for Greenville County Schools. Ten selected students work alongside a teacher leading the student-run branch: Where students receive real-world financial education and career preparation. The students received in-depth training over the summer to prepare them for operating The Branch at Greenville High. At the completion of the summer-long training, students are capable of not only handling cash and opening new accounts, but also implementing growth strategies through a marketing plan they develop.

“At Greenville Senior High School we seek to provide students with authentic experiences in their classrooms and in our community so that they are receiving more than just a high school diploma. Through this generous partnership with Greenville Federal Credit Union to establish The Branch at Greenville High, we are able to provide the most authentic training experience available. The opportunity for our students to be trained as credit union employees and to gain real-world preparation in a professional environment is priceless,” said Greenville Senior High School Principal, Jason Warren. “With the operation of The Branch during the school day, our entire student body will have an opportunity to learn and practice personal financial management skills. This is a perfect example of a wonderful opportunity for students that could not exist without the support of a business partner like Greenville Federal Credit Union.”

Affinity Cards

Greenville Federal Credit Union offers two affinity Visa® debit cards designed to benefit Greer High and Greenville High. The two cards are available to any credit union checking account holder.  The cards reflect the logo, branding, and colors of the schools where the credit union runs its student-branch programs. For every affinity debit card issued, the credit union will donate the $10.00 issuance fee back to the respective school.

“Community support for these two high schools is exceptionally strong.  We’ve been asked many times if our school-branded debit cards would ever be available for all members,” said credit union president Paul Hughes.  “We are pleased to offer these cards for anyone in Greenville County – parents, alumni, staff and supporters – as a means to show school spirit and help support school programs.”

Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Greenville County may request a Greenville Federal Credit Union High School Affinity debit when they open a checking account with the credit union. Checking accounts and Visa debit cards are subject to credit approval. Greenville Federal Credit Union membership eligibility requirements apply, and specific services, rates, and fees may vary.
